Ukugcaba (skin incision)

Ukugcaba (skin incision) is a practice performed by Amanguni in South Africa. Incision can be seen as both a family tradition and a ritual, as not every Nguni person practices it.

Protection incision

The above describes my skin incision, done between my ears and vellus hair. Mine was performed after the unnatural death of my mother. This practice is essential for both the deceased and the family, as it completes the circle of life to prevent similar deaths and aids the acceptance of the spirit on the other side. The incisions are made one month after the deceased's burial, on each side of the face and the top of the head.

Horn bangel inspired by imbadada

This is the horn bangel I made it is inspired by the imabadada design. With this bangel I created the pattern by burning scapular in order to create the patterns on it which is a similar practice done with skin incision where by the spear is burnt and marks are made on one’s face.
